Review: Nokia 603
Nothing bad about the device but why not spend a bit extra and get Nokia Lumia 710?

When Nokia joined hands with Microsoft for Windows Mobile operating system, the company announced that the Symbian OS would be phased out by 2016. With still four years to go, the company is still introducing Symbian devices. The latest we have in our hands is the Nokia 603.
This phone looks very much like the earlier Symbian 3 devices. The plastic body with a 3.5-inch bright display sports some curved edges. The only physical keys are call answer, call reject and menu below the display. While the volume controls and camera key is on the right, the top is dominated by a charging port, 3.5mm jack and lock key. The back panel is neat with 5MP camera lens and speakers at the bottom.
The interface of the 603 isn't any different. The Symbian Belle operating system divides the main homescreen into multiple windows where one can add shortcuts. The old menu interface of the Nokia phones has been replaced by the application launcher where everything is stored in the open, without any folders or sub-heads. Similar to the notification bar on Android smartphones, we could access shortcuts to mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Silent along with the notifications for missed calls, music player, messages, etc. Surprisingly, the 603 had a lot many apps pre-installed. The regular set of utility apps pre-loaded on the phone included QuickOffice, Nokia Drive for navigation, Msg Reader, Adobe Reader, CNN International, Weather, etc.
We also managed to download a few apps from the Nokia Ovi Store. Other than emails, calling, web and apps, we also used the phone for playing music. The sound output was good and the bright display enhanced our video experience. There is also a 5MP camera that captures decent images. Surprisingly, the overall performance of the device was smooth without any hiccups. The battery didn't last more than a day, which is a usual with today's smartphones.
