Nifty 50, Sensex soar to record highs in November

Nifty 50 scaled all-time high of 13,055 on November 24. It advanced further to scale a new high of 13,259 on December 4.  During November, the index yielded robust returns of 11.4 per cent.

S&P BSE Sensex mimicked the trend, climbing to 45,050 on December 4. In November, it yielded robust returns of 11.4 per cent.

Indian equity markets witnessed record foreign portfolio investments of $8.1 billion in November. In the first week of the month, FPI's pumped in $1.7 billion. The inflows increased gradually to $2.9 billion by the last week of November.

Mutual funds showed exactly opposite behaviour. They bought debt instruments worth $1.8 billion in November and pulled out $3.1 billion from equities. Mutual funds have been going heavy on investments in debt and simultaneously pulling out funds from equity since the beginning of this year.

Indian rupee depreciated against the US currency unit to average at Rs.74.22 per US dollar in November from Rs 73.5 per US dollar in October. The Indian currency unit started depreciating in the last 10 days of October itself. The rupee depreciated against the Sterling Pound and the Euro too. It weakened from Rs 95.41 per Sterling Pound in October to Rs 97.9 per Sterling Pound in November.
