India's stock market continued its record breaking streak in December 2020. Nifty 50 advanced by over 1,000 points for the second consecutive month to hit new record high of 13,981.8.
Sensex hit new record high of 47,751.3 on the last day of December. Sensex rose by 3,602 points in December, after gaining 4,535 points in November. In percentage terms, this translates to 8.2 per cent returns in December.
Total investments by FPIs in the Indian capital markets in December 2020 amounted to $9.6 billion, which was their highest ever monthly investment in India.
Mutual funds, on the other hand, pulled out $982 million from the Indian capital market in December 2020. They sold equities worth $2.6 billion, while pumping in $1.7 billion into debt instruments.
