After spending nearly 10 months in space, astronaut Sunita Williams is set to face one of her toughest challenges yet — readjusting to life on Earth. While her space mission has been ground-breaking, the extended stay in microgravity has taken a toll on her body. When she returns to Earth, Sunita will experience dizziness, muscle weakness, and balance issues as her body struggles to cope with Earth’s gravity again. Her bones have lost density, increasing the risk of fractures, while her heart and circulation system will need time to adjust after months of reduced effort in space. Even simple tasks like standing and walking will be difficult at first. She may have also developed ‘baby feet’, as callouses formed from years of walking on Earth have disappeared due to weightlessness. NASA’s rehabilitation program will help her recover through physical therapy, cardiovascular monitoring, and gradual reconditioning. Williams has always been a symbol of strength and resilience, but this next phase of her journey will test her in ways even space did not.
