In his latest attack on the BRICS grouping, US President Donald Trump has claimed his threat of a 150% tariff has broken up the group of 6 nations. Speaking at the Republican Governors Association meeting in Washington DC, Trump claimed success against BRICS attempt to “undermine the US dollar”. He said the group comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and several other joinees, were planning to create a new currency, potentially linked to the Chinese Yuan, to challenge the dollar's global dominance. According to Trump, his immediate response upon entering office was to declare that any BRICS nation even mentioning the dollar's destruction would face a massive 150% tariff, effectively cutting them off from the U.S. economy. He now states that he hasn't “heard from the BRICS states lately,” implying his threat successfully dismantled their plans.
