Veteran industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan – India’s third highest civilian award. The Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group received the honour at a glittering ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Padma Bhushan is in recognition of his contribution to the field of trade and industry. Kumar Mangalam Birla is the fourth recipient of the Padma award in the Birla family. His great-grandfather G D Birla was awarded the 2nd highest civilian award of the country – Padma Vibhushan in 1957 for his contributions to trade and industry. His grand-uncle G P Birla received the Padma Bhushan award in 2006 for social work. Kumar Mangalam Birla’s mother Rajashree Birla also received the Padma Bhushan in 2011 for social work.
