Electrifying cars at Auto Expo

Auto Expo 2018 got off to a start with a focus on electric vehicles, following the government's not-so-subtle nudge for the country to go electric by 2030.Among the models strutting their stuff was the Mercedes EQ SUV that takes all of five seconds to go from zero to 100kmph, with a maximum range of 500 km on a single charge. In fact, a charge of five minutes is sufficient to drive it for 100 km. Expect to shell out at least Rs 50 lakh for it.

The Udo, from the Mahindra and Mahindra stable is a two-seater electric concept car, aimed at replacing the two-wheelers. Interstingly, for a car, it comes with two front wheels and one rear wheel.

The Renault Trezor is a concept car, a two-seater coup that makes electric look sexy and sporty, with a 0-100kmph in less than four seconds.

The Honda NeuV - which stands for New Electric Urban Vehicle - is a two seater concept car that comes equipped with storage space at the back.

The Hyundai Ioniq EV does a respectable 0-100kmph in 10.2 seconds - 9.9 in sport mode - with a top speed of 165kmph and a range of 280 km on a full charge. While there's no official word on its price tag, it is expected to cost a minimum of Rs 20 lakh. It also has a hybrid version, though that is unlikely to be available in India given the imposition of the top bracket of GST on hybrid vehicles.

The KIA Soul EV is a five seater, with the ability to go from 0-100kmph in 10.8 seconds, and a top speed of 144kmph. Expect a price of Rs 24 lakh for this car.
