Designer Rocky S is following the footsteps of designers such as Anita Dongre and is working towards launching a new line of ready-to-wear clothing.
The clothing line under the label RS is expected to be in the market by November. "I have been working on this for a year and finally the ball has started rolling," says Rocky.
The line would have products ranging from men's to women's clothing, bags, deodorants and underwear, priced between Rs 1,200 and Rs 6,000 - a segment where players such as Zara, Marks & Spencer, and Forever New are present.
The designer sells two labels, the Rocky Star Resort and Rocky S: Red Carpet. The products are priced from Rs 15,000 to upwards of Rs 1 lakh. He has also worked with women's wear brand Sepia for six months and kids wear brand Gini and Jony.
The designer has also tied up with a retail chain, which will be investing in the brand, marketing and retailing it. "It's a great marriage which we have done," he says.
Rocky notes that the prt, or ready-to-wear, clothing is a favourite of e-commerce retailers such as Jabong, Myntra and Pernia. "Everyone wants to capture that part and they have now come down to the price point which is actually a sellable price point," he says.
Rocky will also go on e-commerce sites and sell alongside the retail chain, which he wouldn't name. He, however, says the retail partner has an experience of 10-15 years. "They know what is going to sell and how you're going to move forward," he says.
