Passengers who are travelling to and from Sealdah and Delhi are the lucky ones who will be able to experience the new and upgraded 'Swarna' coaches of Rajdhani Express. These upgrades are soon going to be unveiled in three trains of Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani, two trains of Sealdah- New Delhi Rajdhani and one train of Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi express. According to reports, these coaches were upgraded at a cost of Rs 35 lakh or around Rs 2 lakh per coach, the first of which was given to the Sealdah-Delhi Rajdhani. The new coaches are equipped with facilities such as LED lighting, 'auto janitor', night signage and vinyl wrapping on toilet doors.

The coach also has built-in ladder to access the upper berth for First AC class passengers. There are CCTVs installed in the areas around the doors and aisles. For the convenience of the passengers, the coach also has newly-designed bags, mobile holders and LED light over mirrors.

The interior of the coach has been changed with a new colour scheme that is enhanced by the newly-added LED lighting.  There is night-signage to direct passengers to their berths. The toilet doors are now vinyl-wrapped, and the toilets have polished commodes and basins, stainless steel washbasins, new soap dispensers and dustbins, and extra mats.

The Swarna coaches are part of Indian Railways' plan to upgrade Rajdhani and Shatabdi expresses under Project Swarna. According to reports, zonal railways were given a free hand in developing these coaches to provide riders with more passenger-friendly coaches.
