Regenerative medicine is an emerging discipline of medical research that involves treatments designed to regenerate damaged tissues or organs. From a science and technology point of view, regenerative medicine is at the intersection of biology, physics, biochemistry and tissue engineering. It embraces several research areas, such as cell therapy, tissue engineering, biomaterials engineering, growth factors and transplantation science.

K.V. Subramaniam, the President of Reliance Life Science, explains how regenerative medicine is exploring ways to repair, refurbish or replace human organs damaged by chronic disease, injury, stroke or just plain aging, and why lack of regulatory reforms in India has set it back in the world order

Regenerative medicine is expected to become the standard of care for replacing all tissue and organ systems in the body, in addition to its extensive industrial use for pharmaceutical testing. With the establishment of standards in regulatory approvals, evidence-based research and clinical practice, and insurance-reimbursable regenerative therapies, stem cell therapies and tissue engineering-based stem cell devices will find a major niche in medical prescriptions in the future.~
