Under one Roof

This space has all the makings of your neighbourhood bar. Number 8 Kitchen & Bar in Sundar Nagar lies at one of the market and looks understated at first glance. Climb up a flight of stairs and the blackened, brick wall, easy seating and a relaxed vibe. The music is old school (none of the loud, head banging variety playing here). I usually shy away from restaurants that are coined 'multi-cuisine' as one always gets the sense that it basically means they can't do justice to any one cuisine, but at Number 8, their aim is to draw all types in rather than alienate some because of a limited food menu. And is seems to work. The space is busy mid-week and what's interesting to see if the mix; you have an equal number of older couples/ families and groups of girls out for a summer drink.

Speaking of summer, they also have a terrace that's done up tastefully and overlooks the tall trees of Sundar Nagar. We can see this becoming a popular party spot once the weather turns as it affords you the privacy a party would demand. Begin your meal with the mezze platter which is light, refreshing and a good starting point (we specially loved the beetroot dip). Move onto the Thai glass noodle chicken salad if spice doesn't intimidate you as this dish tends to be heavy in that department. The vegetable filo pastry sheet served with a cheese and asparagus sauce is also an excellent appestiser if you are vegetarian.

For mains, the khatte baingan ki biryani served with lotus stem raita is delicious and gives you a taste of home-style Indian food dressed to kill. There are a number of Asian options on the menu as well, including several fish dishes that sounded excellent. The crusty chicken burger with jalapeno cheddar sauce seems like another popular dish as is the wild mushroom and red wine risotto served with a herbed mascarpone. End the meal with the flourless chocolate cake served with a chocolate mousse, cocoa crumble and dark chocolate ganache. So much chocolate and all of it truly delightful.

Number 8 is the kind of place you can happily visit with family members who never agree on where to dine as everyone will find something they like. The bar menu is well curated as well and the espresso martini is a sure shot winner. Those who like something tamer would do well to try one of the summer coolers on offer.

Head to Number 8 if you just want to lounge about without it getting too hectic and enjoy grazing on a range of dishes. This one is likely to win over families and friends who are looking for diverse food experiences under one roof.
