Automaker BMW, in its 2019 April Fools' Day advert, announced a car paint called ‘Lunar Paint,’ that can charge electric vehicles by moonlight. "Lunar Paint uses revolutionary photovoltaic technology to passively recharge your battery in the hours of darkness," the company said.
Google’s newest addition to search: Google Nose
According to Google, “smelling is believing.” Hence, they introduce Google Nose, tech giants newest addition in search, on April 1st. Touted as an ‘internet sommelier,’ Google Nose uses expertly curated Knowledge Graphs to pair images, descriptions, and aromas.
H&M's Mark Zuckerberg collection
In 2016, a parody site ‘MarkforHM.com,' which went live on April Fools' Day, purportedly unveiled a special collaboration between fashion brand H&M and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The website claimed that H&M has launched a limited capsule collection of "reissued iconic pieces from H&M basics” and the new Mark Zuckerberg x H&M collection would include a set of seven basic grey t-shirts and a pair of basic jeans.
SunLife Beard Insurance
From Miley Cyrus’s $1 million tongue insurance to Bruce Springsteen’s $6 million voice insurance to Kim Kardashian’s $21 million coverage for her bum, we’ve all heard about athletes and celebrities insure their body parts. SunLife’s April Fool’s prank took this to the next level by calming that one can also insure their beard. They also launched a campaign along with a video, that generated 800K social reach and 20K visits to the beard insurance microsite.
ASOS catwalk, models Included, available as backdrop for weddings
ASOS, as part of its April fools’ day prank, had announced that its catwalk, used for fashion shoots, would be available as a glamorous backdrop for weddings. The ASOS wedding package includes clothing, male models as ushers, flowers, photos, and even its delivery van.
Burger King toothpaste
Fast food chain Burger King, in its April Fools' prank in 2017, announced the Whopper Toothpaste that ‘embodies the iconic flavour of the Whopper and combines it with active ingredients for optimal teeth and gum hygiene.’
Google Screen Cleaner
Google, in 2019, introduced a new feature called ‘Google Screen Cleaner’ on Android smartphones, and claimed that it could clean physical dirt from your phone using what it called ‘haptic micromovement generator.’ Google, in its prank, claimed that the Screen Cleaner ‘magically cleans dirt and stains.’
McDonald’s Hipster Happy Meal subscription service
McDonald’s, in its April Fool’s Day prank, announced ‘MmmBox’ with a monthly subscription service that matches its customers with their favorite menu items according to their lifestyle. In order to make their prank seem real, they offered three different MmmBox offerings, including The Artisan, The Ribster, and The Minimalist.
Tinder introduces height verification
Dating app Tinder, in a prank in 2019, announced that it was launching a height verification tool to bring ‘truthfulness back into the world of online dating.’ It claimed that the feature would require users to input their ‘true, accurate height’ along with a photo of themselves standing next to any commercial building.
Airbnb allows workers to earn cash by renting their workspace
This Airbnb April Fool’s prank made people think if they could spend a day or an hour working from different offices as viable option. The programme, called ‘AirBRB versus Airbnb,’ offered employees to rent their desks in their lunch break or for an afternoon.
