Parag Agrawal: CEO of Twitter
Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has studied at IIT-Bombay after he took admission to Stanford University to pursue a PhD in Computer Science.
He secured 77th rank in the IIT-JEE exams. He joined Twitter in 2011 as a software engineer. He was also appointed the chief technology officer in October 2017. He also took leadership powers at Microsoft research and Yahoo research.
Agarwal was appointed as the CEO of the platform right after co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey stepped down from his position in November 2021.
Interestingly, Agrawal will reportedly get $42 million within 12 months of management rejig after Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter.
Salil Parekh: Chief Executive Officer of Infosys
Salil Parekh was brought in to salvage the business and image of IT services major Infosys in 2018 after an embarrassing public spat played out between Infosys’s founders and then CEO Vishal Sikka, severely denting the confidence of both clients and investors.
Parekh, who holds an aeronautical engineering graduate degree from IIT Bombay and a master's in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from Cornell, likes to spend time in an organisation, just like many of his contemporaries.
Before taking on the Infosys job, he was a veteran of 25 years at Capgemini, where he was last a member of the Group Executive Board. That was preceded by an eight-year stint at Ernst & Young as a partner.
K Sivan: ISRO Chairman
Kailasavadivoo Sivan, K Sivan, is also known as ‘Rocket Mani’ for his outstanding contribution to the development of cryogenic engines for India’s space program.
He graduated from Madras Institute of Technology in Aeronautical engineering in 1980. He took his ME in aerospace engineering from IISc, Bangalore in 1982. He also completed his PhD in Aerospace engineering from IIT, Bombay in 2006.
He contributed his efforts to the Chandrayaan 2 mission. He also contributed significantly to PSLV, GSLV and GSLV Mk-III vehicle designs.
Bhavish Aggarwal: Co-founder of Ola cabs
Bhavish Aggarwal studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering from IIT-Bombay in 2008. He began his career with Microsoft. In January, he co-founded Ola cabs with Ankit Bhati in Bengaluru.
He was also listed among the 100 most influential people in Time Magazine.
Nandan Nilekani: Non-executive chairman, Infosys
Nandan Nilekani is an entrepreneur and one of the famous alumni of IIT-Bombay.
He is one of the founding members of Infosys, which was established in 1981 by which he is a non-executive chairman of a big organisation.
He pursued a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from IIT-Bombay. From 2009 to 2013, he was the chairman of the UIDAI, the Aadhar issuing authority.
Rahul Yadav: Co-founder and former CEO of housing.com
Rahul Yadav, the former CEO of Housing.com, has been mired in controversy many times. On June 1, he was fired as the CEO of Housing.com.
Yadav started the company to provide housing solutions and unify all the other real estate players functioning in the country. "We want to unify all those and create a global platform for real estate", Yadav has said in the past.
Nitesh Tiwari: Indian Film Director
Nitesh Tiwari is a writer and director. He pursued a BTech degree in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Bombay.
He is known for his movies such as Dangal, and Chillar Party, among others.
Vipul Goyal: Indian Comedian
Vipul is one of the best entertainers and stand-up comedians in India. He was also featured in the web series named ‘ Humourly Yours’.
He studied electrical engineering at IIT-Bombay. He is also one of the best alumni of IIT-Bombay.
Parul Gupta: Co-founder and President of Springboard
Parul Gupta is a graduate of IIT Bombay in Electrical Engineering. She worked as an Executive Board of the IIT Bombay Alumni Association.
She is working as a president at Springboard, which is a platform that encourages learning and provides an alternative to the education system.
Sarita Adve: Professor at the University of Illinois
Sarita Adve pursued BTech in electrical engineering from IIT-Bombay in 1987.
She is known for her contributions to memory consistency models for multiprocessors, memory system performance, hardware reliability and power management, among others.
Manohar Parikar: Former Minister of Defence of India and four-time Goa chief minister
Late Manohar Parikar was also an alumnus of IIT-Bombay graduate. He completed his metallurgical engineering at the IIT-Bombay in 1978.
He was a four-time Goa chief minister and former defence minister of India. He passed away at 63 after battling a prolonged illness.
Jairam Ramesh: Member of Rajya Sabha
Jairam Ramesh is an economist and active politician for the congress political party. He is a member of Parliament representing Karnataka state.
He completed his BTech in mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay.
He was appointed as Rural Development Minister and Minister of Drinking water and Sanitation in the years 2011 to 2014.
He assumed the office as MP for Karnataka on July 1st, 2016. He also provides strategic policy and advice on environmentally sound technologies for developing nations to a UN agency.
