Celerio is the most fuel efficient petrol car on sale in India so far. Its VXi AMT trim is claimed to give a fuel efficiency of 26.68 kmpl, followed by the ZXi and ZXi+ AMT variants at 26 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki’s tall-boy hatchback WagonR, after this year’s update, gets two petrol engine options – 1.0-litre unit, which delivering up to 25.19 kmpl with the AMT gearbox, and 1.2-litre engine, that can provide up to 24.43 kmpl (ARAI) with the AMT option.
Milage: 24.12 kmpl
Maruti Suzuki Dzire, with the 1.2-litre K12N engine that comes with a start-stop function, gives a fuel efficiency of 23.26 kmpl with its 5-speed manual gearbox and 24.12 kmpl with 5-speed AMT transmission, making it the most fuel-efficient petrol sedan in India.
Milage: 23.76 kmpl
The Maruti Suzuki Swift, after receiving a facelift earlier this year, now gets same K12N petrol engine as in its sibling Dzire. However, its mileage figures are slightly lower – 23.2 kmpl and 23.76 kmpl for the manual and AMT, respectively, compared to Dzire.
Milage: 22.94 kmpl
The new 2022 Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder DualJet K12N petrol engine and can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox. The ARAI-claimed milage for the new hatchback with the manual gearbox is 22.35 kmpl, while the new AMT version is claimed to provide an even higher figure of 22.94 kmpl.
Milage: 22.05 kmpl
Maruti Suzuki’s smallest car is powered by a 0.8-litre engine, which returns ARAI-claimed milage of 22.05 kmpl. Interestingly, its CNG variant also offer an equally impressive mileage of 31.59 km per kg of gas.

The Renault Kwid is available with two engine options – 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre. The Kwid 1.0 manual gets an ARAI mileage of 21.74 kmpl, while the 0.8-litre unit is rated at 20.71 kmpl. However, Kwid’s 1.0-litre engine when mated to the AMT gearbox can deliver a milage of up to 22 kmpl.

Datsun Redigo, which shares same powertrain as in Renault Kwid, comes with two petrol engines – 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre. Redigo gets a fuel efficiency of around 22 kmpl form the 1.0-litre engine with the AMT gearbox. On the other hand, its 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre engines with the manual gearbox are rated at 20.71 kmpl and 21.7 kmpl, respectively.
Milage: 21.7 kmpl
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, which shares its 1.0-litre petrol engine with the Celerio and WagonR, has similar ARAI efficiency figures as its cousins. S-Presso’s higher-spec VXI and VXI+ trims (with 14-inch rims) have a marginally higher 21.7 kmpl rating compared to the lower variants, which are rated at 21.4 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis with its 1.2-litre K12M petrol engine delivers an ARAI-rated efficiency of 20.89 kmpl in manual and AMT automatic transmission.
