Haridwar's Maha Kumbh Mela, which was last held in 2010 and reportedly attended by 1.63 crore devotees, will be held through January 14, 2021, till the end of April.This year, however, the event won't be the same with the COVID-19 pandemic casting a pall of fear over the world's biggest gathering of people.Here is how Haridwar is gearing up for the big mega event.
Authorities are extra cautious in planning the event, keeping in mind the guidelines issued by the government in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
The management will take special care to ensure that people are following social distancing. There will be constant surveillance via a network of CCTV cameras around the venue of Maha Kumbh.
Special arrangements are being made regarding medical facilities and masks with COVID-19 in focus. A 100-bed hospital has been prepared especially to cater to emergencies arising due to the pandemic .
A separate 50-bed facility is also being readied for other health issues and emergencies.
The Uttarakhand government will also keep in mind the need for an adequate number of masks.
