Dressing up and getting ready for the Oscars night costs a mini fortune, and who would know it better than the most nominated actor of all time, Meryl Streep, who's in the running this year with her 21st Oscar nomination. Everything, including winning an Oscar, has a price.$15,000 (Rs 9.77 lakh) is the minimum spent for a gown, which are dissected and analysed the most. Custom-made couture gowns however, can start from a minimum of $25,000 (Rs 16.29 lakh) and go up to $200,000 (Rs 1.30 crore), as it did for Cate Blanchett's 2014 Oscar ceremony dress, by Giorgio Armani.
Accessorising that gown means adorning some jewellery, which can start from $2.5 million (Rs 16.31 crore) for a night out at the Oscars, and go up to $20 million (Rs 130.48 crore).Of course, it must be remembered that most designers are happy to lend their creations free to the A-listers and the Oscar nominees for the enormous publicity and airtime their creations get.
A couple of weeks before the Oscars ceremony, the process to look good actually starts. Among the things taken care of is that dazzling smile for the flashbulbs - which means teeth whitening that can cost $1,500.(Rs 98,000).
An Oscar night is akin to a bridal makeover - looking good counts for a great deal...of money. A full body makeover will cost anywhere upward of $10,000 (Rs 6.50 lakh).That includes $7,000 (Rs 4.57 lakh) a day for a stylist, $1,000 on the day of the event for a make-up artist and $200 (Rs 13,000) for hair styling. Other cost heads include manicure, pedicure. Spray tanning and waxing.
$2,000-3000 (Rs 1.30-1.96 lakh) is what red carpet walkers at the Oscars will spend on a pair of heels - sourced from Gucci, YSL, Louboutin, Prada or Balenciaga.
Finally, to reach the ceremony, it would look ridiculous to just hail a cab off the street. A luxury car or a limousine is par for the course, costing an average of $400 (Rs 26,000) per hour. Given that the ceremony lasts four hours, from the start of the red carpet, and at least another couple of hours after the ceremony for the Governors' Ball, that's a minimum of $2,400 (Rs 1.57 lakh) for a night to remember.
