  • OpenAI has introduced a new tool for companies using ChatGPT 3.5 API .
  • The tool can be used to fine-tune and train the AI assistant according to their specific requirements.
  • Users can also personalize the response from ChatGPT through the recently rolled out custom instructions feature

ChatGPT, an AI tool that is all the buzz nowadays, is fairly good at certain tasks. But what if it still doesn't meet the high standards you or your company sets when it comes to work? OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has now come out with a tool that will help companies using ChatGPT 3.5 API to fine-tune and train the AI assistant so that it creates content that matches the requirements.

"Fine-tuning lets you train the model on your company's data and run it at scale", OpenAI Tweeted. It further claims that the custom model created utilising fine-tuning o can even match or exceed the abilities of GPT-4 for certain tasks.

Fine-tuning to customise models for businesses

OpenAI revealed that since the release of GPT-3.5 Turbo, which is an API that companies and organisations can use, its users have asked for the ability to customise the model to create unique and special experiences. "With this launch, developers can now run supervised fine-tuning to make this model perform better for their use cases," said the company.

The company also said that like ChatGPT, the GPT3.5 API will continue to remain pre-trained with data up to September 2021. In addition to this, the custom training and fine-tuning that organisations apply to the API for their specific use will be considered local application and the custom data will not be used to train any OpenAI application.

So how can companies use the new GPT feature? Here is an example: Maybe your company runs a customer care service and uses GPT 3.5 API to power the AI tool that talks to customers. With the new feature now, you can tell and teach the GPT-3.5 to answer customers in your specific way, and with your specific solutions.

Custom instruction for ChatGPT users

The new feature comes just days after custom instructions feature was rolled out by OpenAI for ChatGPT. This feature can personalize the response from the AI chatbot according to the user's preference. To set preferences, users are initially prompted to provide an introduction, answering questions like "What information would you like ChatGPT to know about you?" and "How should ChatGPT tailor its responses to you?"

Once the introduction is provided, ChatGPT will incorporate the user's customized instructions into all new conversations. The model will take these instructions into account each time it generates a response. This means users won't need to specify their preferences or details in every conversation.

For example, a writer working on a novel can tell ChatGPT the genre, tone, and target audience of the novel, so that ChatGPT can generate text that is consistent with the writer's vision. A student studying for a test can tell ChatGPT the subject of the test, so that ChatGPT can generate practice questions and study materials that are relevant to the student's needs.
