New emission norms for vehicles will be implemented in India from April 2023. These are known as RDE or Real Time Driving Emission Norms. With its implementation, many auto makers will discontinue their diesel vehicles, while some changes will be required in petrol vehicles as well
New emission norms from 2023
Under RDE, vehicles must have an onboard self-diagnostic device to monitor real-time driving emission levels. To keep an eye on emissions, the device will constantly monitor key parts for meeting emission standards, such as catalytic converters and oxygen sensors
Real Time Driving Emission Norms
RDE testing, which measures pollutants like NOx emitted by vehicles in a real-world setting rather than just a lab, leads to better compliance
RDE testing
RDE is referred to as Phase 2 of India's BS-VI emission norms, the first phase of which began in 2020. Check out the list of 17 cars which will be discontinued before April 2023 due to this rule
