Korean automaker Hyundai has launched its new SUV under the Rs 10 lakh segment. The new SUV was revealed earlier this year.
Hyundai has designed the front fascia of Exter in a unique way when compared to its other SUVs in the market. It gets H-shaped daytime running lights in the front which sit on top of the projector headlamps. Between the lights, there is a black mesh grille. The backlight LEDs are also H-shaped connected by a thick and shiny black bar.
The new SUV comes with sporty looking diamond cut alloys supporting the longest wheelbase in the segment measuring 2,450mm. The car is also the tallest in the segment with a height of 1,631mm.
Hyundai gives two engine options for its new SUV, Exter. First, is a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine giving an output of 81.86 bhp and 113.8 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a Smart Auto (AMT) transmission. Second option is a 1.2-litre factory-fitted CNG engine giving an output of 68bhp and 95.2 Nm torque. This engine is available only with the 5-speed manual transmission.
The automaker has claimed that the 1.2 litre petrol engine gives a mileage of 19.4 kmpl with manual transmission and 19.2 kmpl with the AMT. The CNG option is claimed to have a mileage of 27.1 kms per kilo.
For infotainment, the new Exter gets an 8.2-inch HD touchscreen display with a 4.2-inch advanced digital cluster. The infotainment system comes with in-built compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
One of the main features of the new SUV from Hyundai will be a voice-enabled smart electric sunroof which will be the first-in-segment. The car also has a dashcam with front and rear camera.
Hyundai has equipped its new budget SUV with several first-in-segment safety features like ESC (Electronic Stability Control), Hill-Assist Control and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM). Other safety features include six airbags, burglar alarm, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and ABS with EBD.
The Korean automaker earlier revealed that its new SUV will be available in three variants. The price of the new SUV starts at Rs 5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the top variant costs Rs 9.32 lakhs (ex-showroom)
With Exter, Hyundai will go up against the likes of Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
