A fleet of vintage cars took over the streets of Delhi to participate in the annual vintage car rally from Major Dhyanchand Stadium near India Gate to Delhi Gymkhana Club, near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence
Delhi’s vintage car rally is a major attraction for vintage car enthusiasts and the general public who get to see these iconic cars on display
The vintage car rally saw over 50 cars and 23 vintage two-wheelers taking over the roads of Lutyens Delhi after being flagged off by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena
Some of the iconic vintage cars on display were iconic Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Cadillacs and Mustangs
Some vintage Rolls Royce luxury cars were among the oldest at the rally. The oldest car was a 1928 Rolls Royce Phantom I. It belongs to Delhi’s Gurpreet Singh, who procured it in the early 90s from Maharaja of Bhavnagar
One of the 'newest' vintage cars was a 1965 Cadillac in mauve shade. Owned by Gurgaon-based construction entrepreneur Parmeet Bhalla, the Cadillac was imported into India by the Embassy of Cambodia in 1965. Since then it changed hands a few times before Parmeet Bhalla purchased it in 2009
“I have always been fascinated with vintage cars, especially the Cadillac. This was in bad shape when I acquired it. I had to restore it completely. Now you can order parts on Amazon globally and have them shipped to India so it is easier to restore vintage cars as compared to previously,” said Parmeet Bhalla
Another vintage car at Delhi’s rally was a 1939 Rolls Royce owned by Gurgaon-based Harsh Wardhan Bhatnagar, who retired from BHEL in 2005. The 1939 Rolls Royce was imported from the US and completely restored by Bhatnagar who is passionate about vintage cars. He owned 35 vintage cars at one point in time
Some of the other iconic vintage cars at Delhi’s Vintage Car rally were
- 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II owned by Gautam Singhania, MD, Raymond Group
- Anil Malhotra’s 1934 Buick gifted to him by Saif Ali Khan’s father Mansoor Ali Khan ‘Tiger’ Pataudi
