Reliance Jio, India's largest private mobile data network, successfully showcased India's inaugural satellite-based giga fiber service aimed at delivering high-speed broadband to previously unreachable regions within the country.
At the India Mobile Congress on Friday, Jio introduced its cutting-edge satellite broadband service called JioSpaceFiber. This service is set to offer nationwide coverage at affordable rates.
Reliance Jio, known for providing high-speed broadband services to over 450 million consumers, is taking a step further by enhancing digital inclusivity through JioSpaceFiber, which joins their existing broadband offerings, JioFiber and JioAirFiber.
With Jio's services, both consumers and businesses gain access to dependable, low-latency, high-speed internet and entertainment services, irrespective of their geographical location.
Jio's satellite network will also bolster mobile backhaul capacity, contributing to the expansion of Jio True5G in even the remotest corners of India.
Reliance Jio has partnered with SES, a Luxembourg-based telecommunication provider, to harness the potential of medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, ensuring unmatched gigabit, fiber-like services from space.
With access to SES's O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, Jio is pioneering scalable and cost-effective broadband access throughout India, delivering unprecedented reliability and service flexibility.
As a testament to its capabilities, JioSpaceFiber has already connected four of India's remotest locations, including Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabrangpur in Odisha, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam.
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, highlighted the significance of JioSpaceFiber in expanding digital access, enabling millions to partake in the digital society by offering gigabit access to vital online services.
John-Paul Hemingway, Chief Strategy Officer at SES, underscored their support for the Indian government's Digital India initiative, aiming to provide multi-gigabit connectivity to every corner of the country, including rural areas.
