The IT sector has witnessed stunted salary hikes for freshers in the past 10 years compared to their CEOs, a Business Today analysis shows. The salaries of freshers have increased 46.94 percent while the salaries of CEOs have zoomed 1,492.27 per cent.
The median salary of CEOs is up 1,449.02 per cent while the median salary for freshers is only up 40 per cent, the Business Today analysis highlighted.
The salary of TCS CEO increased more than thrice while salary of fresher increased a little more than two times.
The salary of Infosys CEO increased nearly 100 times.
Salary of Wipro CEO increased almost ten times in the last ten years.
Salary of HCL Technologies CEO went up over 15 times while salary of fresher has increased only 1/6th times.
Salary of Tech Mahindra CEO increased 63 times.
The median salary of CEOs is up 1,449.02 per cent while the median salary for freshers is up 40 per cent.
This discrepancy in the salaries between the CEOs and freshers is not lost on industry veterans.
T.V. Mohandas Pai, former CFO at Infosys, said, “There has been no increase in compensation for freshers. They are being paid the same Rs 3.5-4 lakh that companies were paying 10-12 years ago. During this time, the salary for managers and seniors has gone up 4x, 5x, 7x.”
