BYJU’S boss Byju Raveendran said the edtech giant has been hiring as well. Raveendran said, "Everybody talks about the 2,500 people we had to lay off in three months of 2022 but nobody talks about the 25,000 people we hired in the last 12 months."
In February 2023, BYJU’S hired about 2,000 people. Raveendran said: “We are the largest start-up employer in the country with over 55,000 people working with us.”
In October, tech startup BYJU's announced the layoff of 5 per cent of its 50,000 employees across departments. Through e-mail, Raveendran had apologised to all the employees who got fired
In September 2022, BYJU'S reported its financial results after almost an 18-month delay and saw its losses widening to Rs 4,588 crore whereas revenues stood at Rs 2,428 crore
Byju Raveendran said he met football superstar Lionel Messi for the first time in Kolkata. “Ten years ago, when Argentina came to Kolkata and I was staying at the same hotel, I caught up with Messi when he was also in the same elevator,” said Raveendran
In 2022, BYJU’s was caught up in controversy after it announced signing up football star Lionel Messi as the global brand ambassador of its social impact arm, Education For All, after doing massive layoffs in the company.
Defending the collaboration with Messi, BYJU'S co-founder Divya Gokulnath said the deal was signed to create global awareness about the brand. “When we signed the deal, 25% of our students were from outside India and such deals would help them get global recognition.”
"The war will not last forever, the interest rates will not rise forever but the Indian growth story is here to stay. India is going to become the edtech capital of the world," said BYJU'S co-founder Divya Gokulnath
"Hard work works," said Byju Raveendran as he spoke about the journey of building the edtech giant at India Today Conclave 2023
