YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has announced that she will be stepping down from the role after nine years. Wojcicki said that YouTube Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan will take over as the new YouTube CEO.
Indian-American Neal Mohan is currently the Chief Product Officer at YouTube and sits on the board of Stitch Fix. As product head, he is responsible for YouTube products, user experience, and trust and safety globally.
Neal Mohan became YouTube’s product head in 2015. Since then, he has played pivotal roles in the launch of some of YouTube's biggest products, including YouTube TV, YouTube Music, and Premium and Shorts.
Susan Wojcicki said Neal Mohan has a wonderful sense for the streaming giant's products and he will be a 'terrific leader for YouTube'. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and MBA from Stanford, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
Neal Mohan thanked his boss Susan Wojcicki and said that she had built YouTube into an extraordinary home for creators and viewers. He added, “I'm excited to continue this awesome and important mission. Looking forward to what lies ahead.”
Neal Mohan spent nearly six years at DoubleClick, a company Google acquired in 2008. With the acquisition, Neal Mohan also came on board.
Neal Mohan served for about eight years as senior vice president of Google’s display and video advertising business. He was responsible for the company’s advertising product offerings on YouTube and Google Display Network.
After completing his bachelor's degree, Neal Mohan joined Accenture in 1996 as a senior analyst and then moved to DoubleClick as director in 1997. After nearly six years, Mohan joined Microsoft but returned to DoubleClick in 2005.
