The Indian IT sector has its presence in Israel, just like it does in many developed and developing economies across the world. This is in the form of partnerships with Israeli companies, research centers, local offices, employees, etc.
As of April 2023, Tata Consultancy Services had around 1,100 employees in the country. The IT major started its operations in Israel in 2005, becoming the first Indian IT company with a presence in the Middle-Eastern country.
Being one of the early movers in Israel when it comes to IT, TCS has several big-ticket projects, including government ones, in the country. One of the ongoing projects is Nimbus, in which the IT major was selected by Israel’s Ministry of Economy, Prime Minister’s Office, and Water Authority, to drive their cloud transformations.
The company also launched its Open Innovation program to promote research in Israel in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover this year. Moreover, TCS built the digital infrastructure for Israel's first fully digital bank in 2020-2021.
IT major Wipro also has its presence in Israel. The company acquired an Israeli aircraft parts manufacturer, HR Givon, in 2016. The new entity is called Wipro Givon and it works in the aerospace industry. Moreover, as per its LinkedIn profile, the company is based out of Kiryat Bialik and has 77 employees.
Just like other major IT players, Infosys also has some presence in Israel too. The company signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the Office of the Chief Scientist of Israel, to drive industrial research and development. It is worth noting that despite its collaboration with the government office, Infosys has no physical presence in Israel as per the IT major’s website.
IT giant HCLTech also has its limited presence in Isarel. The company has two offices in the Middle Eastern country, in the cities of Herzliya and Netanya, as a part of its Middle East foot print.
At the current stage, it seems unlikely that the Indian IT sector would witness a huge impact due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, experts noted. Analysts suggested keeping an eye on the developments to see how the sector is impacted in the near term.
On Saturday, Palestinian organisation Hamas attacked Israel, which led to the deaths of hundreds of people. The attacks prompted Israel to retaliate, which has rekindled the armed conflict between both parties in the Gaza Strip. The conflict began in mid-20th century between Jews and Arabs in the region over sovereignty of their people in the geographical region of present-day Israel and Palestine.
