The first Apple Store in Saket, Delhi was launched today as Apple CEO Tim Cook opened the doors for the public. Earlier this week on April 18, Tim Cook launched Apple BKC in Mumbai, the first official retail store in India.
During his visit to India, Apple CEO Tim Cook met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, Bollywood Actress Madhuri Dixit, Musician AR Rahman, and more.
Tim Cook (62-year-old) is the CEO of Apple Inc, one of the world's most valuable companies. Tim Cook's net worth is around $1.9 billion (over Rs 15 thousand crore), according to Forbes. Presently, Tim Cook owns more than 3 million shares of Apple, less than a 1% stake.
Last year, it was reported Tim Cook would take a pay cut for the year 2023. In a proxy statement filed by Apple this year, it was revealed that Tim Cook’s target compensation in 2023 would be $49 million in 2023, 40% less than what he earned in 2022. His per-day salary comes out to be over Rs 1 crore.
Tim Cook had a target compensation of $84 million in 2022. For 2023, the $49 million compensation includes a base salary of $3 million and a $6 million annual cash incentive. Both these components remain unchanged from 2022. Apart from that Cook stands to get an equity award value of $40 million.
In 2022, Tim Cook received compensation of $99.4 million (over Rs 815 crore), including $3 million in base salary, about $83 million in stock awards, and a bonus. This was slightly up from 2021 when his total pay package was $98.7 million, Apple said in regulatory filing.
Tim Cook is the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company to come out as gay. He revealed his sexuality in 2014. Cook then said that he is a private person but ultimately decided that he was being "selfish" by keeping quiet about his identity when he could help people by coming out.
Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 and before being promoted to the position of chief executive officer, Jobs served as the chief operating officer under Steve Jobs. In 2009, when Steve Jobs was in his final years, dying of cancer, Tim Cook offered Jobs a piece of his liver.
According to an excerpt from "Becoming Steve Jobs", Tim Cook, concerned about Jobs' frail condition, went to get his blood tested, and it turned out that his blood type matched Jobs. Upon further investigation, Cook's doctors determined that he could donate Jobs a piece of his liver.
Livers are regenerative organs, so Tim Cook's liver would have regrown to full size, as would the piece of liver that Tim Cook would have donated to Jobs. But Jobs refused. 'No,' he said. 'I'll never let you do that. I'll never do that.', Tim Cook recalled Steve Jobs saying.
Steve Jobs ultimately got a life-saving liver transplant. The Apple founder ultimately died of cancer in 2011. Tim Cook called Jobs' decision to refuse his liver unselfish. "Steve only yelled at me four or five times during the 13 years I knew him, and this was one of them," Cook said.
