An old video of Tata Sons’ Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata has re-surfaced where he recalled the incident when he had to face a gangster at Tata Motors. During an interview with Columbia Business School in 2015, Ratan Tata said, “Fifteen days after I became the Chairman, we had a huge union eruption in Tata Motors." He added, "There was an outsider, a gangster, who decided there was a considerable amount of wealth in our union and wanted to take over control of that. He had about 200 followers - disruptive, violent, and intimidating followers - and the rest of the 4,000 people in that plant were uninterested."
In spite of all the threats by the gangster, Ratan Tata refused to budge and showed great courage by persuading the workers to continue their work. He said, "I would never have done it any other way."

RPSG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka shared an old video of Bajaj Auto CEO Rajiv Bajaj, where he talked about the management lesson he received from a Japanese professor Yamaguchi. Rajiv Bajaj said, “He asked me what my job was. I told him: I am Vice-president, Products, Bajaj Auto. He says, "No, not your designation. What is your job?" I said Product Development is my job. He says, "Not function, what is your job?" I said: making new products is my job. He says, "You designer"? I said, no. Then he asks, "Marketing is your job?" I said I oversee marketing. So he says, "Do you sell?” It went on like that. He would ask, "Do you design?" No. "Are you a test driver?" No. Finally, he says, "You are manager, nai?" He said, "Improvement is your job" and I never forgot that.”
