India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant talked about the changes brought under India’s G20 presidency and more during a conversation with Business Today Editor Sourav Majumdar in the session 'Towards Achieving Global Leadership' at BT India@100 Summit
Sourav Majumdar said, “This G20 Summit is very different from the previous ones as it feels like a national festival.” He then asked about the changes brought under India's G20 presidency. Amitabh Kant replied, “Normally when G20 presidency is held, it is held in one or two cities, in any other country, it has never been made into a people's presidency. So the Prime Minister who was really the leader of G20 during India's presidency decided that we will host the G20 in every state of India."
Amitabh Kant further talked about the preparedness for the G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi in September. He said, “PM Modi decided to take G20 to every Indian state, so we took it to 60 states of India and used this opportunity to improve these cities in terms of infrastructure including draining, sewage and solid waste.
Amitabh Kant pointed out three key trends at the global level – increasing global growth from the South, movement away from the big tech digitally to models which are open source, open API, interoperability models, and transition towards inclusive energy alternatives such as Green Hydrogen
