PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new ‘Bharat Mandapam’ convention centre in New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan on Wednesday. The new centre will host the G20 Summit meetings later this year in September.
The new International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC), which has been built as the centre piece of the revamped Pragati Maidan complex. Its central hall will be used by the G20 leaders for meetings as India is set to host the G20 Summit
The new centre also houses a magnificent amphitheatre with seating capacity of 3,000 individuals. The majestic multi-purpose hall and plenary hall have a combined capacity of seven thousand people, which is larger than the seating capacity of the famous Sydney Opera House in Australia. Its amphitheatre is equipped with a seating capacity of 3,000 individuals.

The new IECC also has some highly advanced tech features with Wi-Fi-covered campus enabled with 5G technology and 10G Intranet connectivity and an interpreter room equipped with cutting-edge technology supporting 16 different languages. The venue also has state-of-the-art AV systems with large video walls, a building management system ensuring optimal functionality and energy efficiency. The building is also equipped with a light management system with dimming and occupancy sensors, and a top-notch Data Communication Network (DCN) system.
The elliptical shape of the Bharat Mandapam has been derived from a Shankha (conch shell). The walls and facades of the building showcase India’s culture and traditional arts.
With a budget of Rs 2,700 crore, the new ‘Bharat Mandapam’ has been built on an area of 123 acres. The new centre is meant to be India’s largest destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.
During his speech at the inauguration, PM Modi talked about the recent developments in the national capital like the National War Memorial, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Memorial and the Prime Ministers Museum. He also announced the new world’s largest museum to be built in New Delhi which has been named as ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat’.
PM Modi shared a video of the exquisite light show and fireworks at the new International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre. The light show was the perfect ending to mark the inauguration of this year's G20 Summit venue. G20 will be hosted in New Delhi on September 9-10, marking the 18th meeting of the Leaders of States and Governments.
