Digital payments platform Google Pay has launched Aadhaar-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) activation for its users with the help of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Now you can link your Google Pay app with your bank account without the use of a debit card. This is a feature which Google Pay’s rival Paytm was already providing to its users
The UPI-Google Pay linking via Aadhaar Card is supported by selected banks as of now with more banks coming on board
- Open Google Pay and select the UPI onboarding option - Choose the bank which needs to be connected with Google Pay - Choose Aadhaar as the preferred method and enter the initial six digits of your Aadhaar number
- – Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) received from UIDAI followed by the OTP from their respective bank for authentication - – It will take a few minutes and Google Pay will then get connected with the bank account -– Google Pay users will then have to set up a UPI pin
-Open Google Pay - At the top right, tap your photo - Tap Bank account - Tap the bank account that you want to edit - Tap more - Change UPI PIN - Create a new UPI PIN - Enter the same UPI PIN again
Other widely used UPI apps Paytm, PhonePe, BHIM app are among digital payment apps that already support UPI activation via Aadhaar Card
As per UIDAI, 99.19% of the adult population in India is an Aadhaar card holder and uses it at least once a month
