Kashmir is currently experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring to record highs across the region.
On Wednesday, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius, marking the hottest July day in 25 years since 1999.
This temperature was notably higher than other major cities in India, including Delhi (34.1°C), Kolkata (31.2°C), Mumbai (33°C), and Bengaluru (28.8°C).
The day temperature in Srinagar was six degrees above the seasonal average, exacerbating the heatwave conditions.
Other areas in the Kashmir Valley also experienced scorching heat, with Qazigund recording 34.4°C and Kupwara at 34.5°C.
The prolonged heatwave has led to water shortages and prompted advisories from the health department to manage the extreme conditions.
The school education department has announced a 10-day summer vacation for valley schools starting July 8 due to the intense heat.
The meteorological department predicts some relief with possible rain or thundershowers on Thursday, followed by intermittent rainfall from July 5-6. However, hot and humid weather is expected to persist from July 8 to 10.
