Over the past year, a series of methamphetamine labs operated by foreigners have been uncovered in Greater Noida, resulting in significant drug seizures and arrests, according to a PTI report.
The most recent raid on April 17 led to the apprehension of four Nigerian nationals and the seizure of 26.67 kg of methylenedioxyphenethylamine (MDMA), valued at Rs 100 crore.
Earlier raids in May last year yielded over 75 kg of MDMA, with a combined value exceeding Rs 350 crore. These operations involved the arrest of several foreign nationals and the discovery of fully equipped meth labs in residential properties.
Law enforcement officials suspect these incidents may only represent a fraction of a larger international drug syndicate operating in the region.
Investigations have revealed that foreign nationals, primarily from Nigeria, were responsible for cooking methamphetamine in Greater Noida.
Cooked meth was distributed to contacts in Delhi before being exported to Europe through undisclosed channels.
Greater Noida's less-dense residential areas and proximity to Delhi make it an attractive location for drug manufacturing due to reduced risk of detection.
The availability of certain raw materials, such as Ephedrine, which are restricted abroad, contributes to the appeal of Greater Noida for drug production.
Drug suppliers utilized lesser-known shopping apps and creative concealment methods, such as hiding methamphetamine in footwear or clothing, to facilitate international smuggling operations.
All individuals apprehended in connection with these methamphetamine labs are currently in custody awaiting legal proceedings.
