Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch its third moon mission named Chandrayaan 3 on July 14. This will be India’s second attempt at a soft landing on the moon’s surface
ISRO chairman S Somanath, earlier said that a launch window was available between July 12 and 19 for the Chandrayaan-3 mission, adding that the date and timing for the launch had been fixed at 2.35 pm on July 14 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota with a possible moon rendezvous on August 23 or 24
The budget allocated for Chandrayaan 3 is around Rs 615 crore. Out of this, the estimated launching cost is about 75 crore, as per ISRO
In comparison, the film Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan as Lord Rama, Sita and Raavan, respectively, was made at a budget of Rs 500 crore, which is only Rs 115 crore lesser than Chandrayaan 3
Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Brahmastra was made at a budget of Rs 450 crore which is Rs 165 crore. The film’s overseas collection was Rs 113 crore, as per Sacnilk
ISRO launched its second moon mission Chandrayaan 2 on 22 July 2019. The total cost of India’s second moon mission was about $124 million, which includes $31 million for the launch and $93 million for the satellite, as per ISRO. This was said to be one of the world’s cheapest moon missions ever. The cost of the second Moon mission was less than half of the Hollywood blockbuster Avengers Endgame, which was made at an estimated budget of $356 million. Chandrayaan 2 was termed a failure as ISRO lost contact with the lander 400 metres before the landing
Chandrayaan-1 was a budget spaceship, built at a cost of Rs. 386 crore, or $76 million, only 4% of ISRO's (then) budget over 3 years. It was launched on 22 October 2008
Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. It consists of Lander and Rover configurations. It will be launched by LVM3 from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota. The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration till the 100 km lunar orbit
Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has been named ‘Vikram’ (after Vikram Sarabhai, the founder of the Indian space programme) and the rover as ‘Pragyan’ a Sanskrit word for Wisdom
