Elon Musk even started a live stream from the border town on X (Twitter) to show the people an ‘unfiltered’ and ‘raw’ version of the immigration crisis. Musk also talked to the local authorities and politicians during his live stream.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk asked the US government to “greatly expand the legal immigration system” and come up with an “expedited legal approval” for the immigrants. He said that the new system should be such that it welcomes “hard-working and honest” migrants and stops the entry of those who are “breaking the law.”

In the live telecast, Elon Musk also mentioned that he is an “immigrant to the United States” which is why he is “extremely pro-immigrant.”

SpaceX CEO Musk also spoke to the US Representative Tony Gonzales, whose district in Texas spans over 800 miles of the southern border. Gonzales welcomed Musk as he said that the people along the Texas-Mexican border feel abandoned.

Elon Musk has a larger interest in Texas as there is a Tesla Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. There is also a big launch and testing site of SpaceX in Boca Chica near Brownsville on the Texas Gulf Coast.

The visit by Elon Musk came at a time when thousands of migrants have travelled to the northern part of Mexico in order to cross the border and seek asylum in the United States.

Most of the migrants are from Venezuela who are crossing the Rio Grande river near a railroad bridge in Eagle Pass. The migrants also seem to be not affected by the coils of razor wires laid along the banks of the river.

Earlier in May, US President Biden had come up with a new immigration policy under which migrants will be presumed ineligible for asylum if they passed through another country enroute to the United States without seeking protection or if they failed to use other legal pathways to enter the US.
