France plunged into chaos after a police officer shot dead a teenager, Nahel M, of Algerian and Moroccan descent in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris. The immigrant Muslims saw it as a targeted attack by French police, and erupted in protests

During the violent protests, rioters clashed with the police and set cars on fire. CNN reported that 45 police officers and gendarmes had been injured overnight, while 74 buildings including 26 police and gendarmes stations were damaged
About 45,000 officers have been deployed across France for the past three nights, interior minister Gérald Darmanin said. More than 150 people were arrested on Sunday night, compared with more than 700 the night before
During five days of protests, the rioters have torched thousands of vehicles in France. The unrest has seen more than 5,600 cars torched, 1,000 private properties burned down, according to Reuters
The rioters attacked the home of a Paris suburb mayor and launched fireworks at his wife and children. Vincent Jeanbrun, the mayor of L'Hay-les-Roses, was at the town hall when his house was attacked and his car was torched
Nahel's grandmother on Sunday said the rioters were using his death as an excuse to cause mayhem: "We don't want them to smash things up," she told BFM TV. "Nahel is dead, that's all there is"
The French Police have detained thousands since the riots began. More than 700 people were detained across France overnight, CNN reported citing Interior Ministry. Nearly 3,200 people had been detained in the last three days
