In 1984, Soros established the Open Society Foundations, a vast network of philanthropic organisations dedicated to promoting causes like democracy, human rights, and social justice across the globe. His substantial financial contributions empowered the foundation to undertake extensive global initiatives

Formation of the Open Society Foundations

However, over the years, the Open Society Foundations have faced controversy. Critics have alleged that the organisation has played a role in regime changes, political interference, and destabilisation efforts in various nations. These allegations have sparked debates about the foundation's intentions and influence

Controversies Surrounding
Open Society Foundations

Soros's financial activities, including his currency speculation, have been linked to the 1997 Asian financial crisis. As per a Bloomberg report, George Soros displayed audacious moves prior to the crisis by placing bets against the currencies of Thailand and Malaysia. Malaysia's Prime Minister at the time, Mahathir Mohamad, held Soros responsible for the turmoil and even publicly called him as a “moron”

Involvement in Asian Financial Crisis

On January 24, short-seller Hindenburg Research published a report alleging that the Adani Group had been involved in a long-running scheme of stock manipulation and accounting fraud. Subsequently, in February, George Soros jumped into the controversy, stating that allegations on Adani will significantly weaken Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stranglehold on India's federal government and open the door to push for much-needed institutional reforms

Reporting Project (OCCRP)

Initially, Hindenburg Research raised concerns, and now on Thursday, OCCRP has joined in. OCCRP recently released a comprehensive report accusing the Adani Group of financial irregularities. The report alleges that the group channelled investments through opaque Mauritius funds, igniting concerns about transparency, corporate governance, and accountability within the conglomerate

OCCRP's Report on
Adani Group

Responding sharply to OCCRP's report, the Adani Group has launched a vigorous counterattack denying the allegations. The conglomerate has questioned the timing of these allegations, deeming them suspicious and orchestrated. The Adani Group categorically rejected the revived allegations, characterising them as part of a calculated big by George Soros-funded interests and certain media outlets to bring back the discredited Hindenburg report.
