India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted heatwave conditions in several states and said that the maximum temperature may rise by 2-4 degree Celsius during the next five days
"Heatwave conditions (are) likely over Gangetic West Bengal from today and over Odisha from tomorrow," the department said in its daily weather bulletin on Wednesday
At present, maximum temperatures are in the range of 40-42 degree Celsius over some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, interior Maharashtra, Odisha, and Telangana, and less than 40 degree Celsius over the rest parts of the country
In the wake of predictions of upcoming heatwave conditions, Delhi government has issued guidelines on school preparedness for ongoing summers. Here's what the circular says
According to ANI, in a circular issued by Delhi govt, it stated that all the schools in Delhi recognised under the directorate of education have to ensure that there is no student assembly in the schools during the afternoon shift
The circular also asked schools to ensure availability of drinking water to students in the schools and added that students should be given water breaks during classes. Moreover, it asked schools to sensitise students to cover their heads during day time
Meanwhile, a senior official told PTI, that the summer vacation in West Bengal government-run and aided schools will begin from May 2 instead of the earlier schedule of May 24 in the wake of sweltering heat across the state. An official notification in this regard is, however, yet to be issued
"Due to the intense heat, a decision has been taken to reschedule the summer vacations. It will now start from May 2. The decision was taken on the insistence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee," the official said
The Odisha government, too, directed the closure of all schools (government and private) as well as anganwadi centres from April 12 till April 16 in view of the heat wave situation in the state
