NASA astronaut Sunita L. Williams is undergoing training to pilot the Crew Flight Test mission aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, marking her third mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
NASA has scheduled two media opportunities on April 25 to discuss preparations for the Boeing Crew Flight Test, targeted for launch on May 6 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
Williams, alongside astronaut Butch Wilmore, will launch aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. They will dock at the ISS for approximately one week.
The Crew Flight Test is the inaugural crewed flight for the Starliner spacecraft under NASA's Commercial Crew Program. It aims to validate the spacecraft's capabilities from launch to docking and return to Earth.
Williams' spaceflight journey began with Expedition 14/15 in 2006-2007, where she conducted four spacewalks. Her second mission, Expedition 32/33 in 2012, saw her spending four months aboard the ISS.
Throughout her missions, Williams conducted research, performed spacewalks, and contributed significantly to space exploration efforts.
As a retired US Navy Captain, Williams has received numerous awards, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Navy Commendation Medal.
Currently, Williams is focused on training for her upcoming role as the pilot of the Crew Flight Test mission, continuing her remarkable journey in space exploration.
