A 22-year-old woman drowned in a car while she was travelling with her family in Bengaluru. Her car got stuck at the waterlogged KR Circle underpass in the IT city. Before she could be rescued, the water flooded the car leading to her death

Newly-elected Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased. He told the media, “The family from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh had hired a car and come to see Bengaluru. Bhanurekha works in Infosys. Due to the downpour, the barricade at the underpass fell down and the driver took the risk of crossing the underpass, which he should not have."

Govt announces compensation

The state police have filed an FIR on the complaint filed by her brother Sandeep. It mentioned that 22-year-old Bhanurekha died after drowning in the waterlogged underpass in the KR Circle area in Bengaluru

As per reports, people tried to help them by throwing ropes, dupattas etc. towards the car to help them stay afloat. Soon, the emergency services arrived and rescued them. They were immediately taken to the hospital, where Bhanurekha was declared dead

Bengaluru is experiencing incessant rain coupled with storms and thunder leading to water logging. A building collapsed on May 21 though no casualty was reported. Trees got uprooted in several places. The KR Circle area where the mishap took place, was reported to be waterlogged even after the fatal incident
