The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced the upcoming launch of the INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite, slated for February 17.
The satellite will be launched onboard a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle F14 (GSLV F14), aiming to bolster meteorological observations and weather forecasting capabilities.
The launch is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Saturday, February 17, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR at Sriharikota, as confirmed by ISRO.
In its 16th mission, the GSLV seeks to deploy the INSAT-3DS satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) to facilitate enhanced meteorological observations.
The INSAT-3DS satellite is specifically designed to conduct advanced meteorological observations and monitor both land and ocean surfaces for improved weather forecasting and disaster warning systems.
According to ISRO, the satellite will complement the existing INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR satellites, thereby enhancing meteorological services.
ISRO highlights the significant contribution of Indian industries in the development of the INSAT-3DS satellite, reflecting the collaborative efforts in space technology advancement.
Following its launch, the satellite will undergo subsequent orbit-raising maneuvers to ensure its positioning in a Geo-Stationary Orbit for optimal functionality.
The launch of INSAT-3DS marks another stride in India's space exploration endeavours, signifying advancements in meteorological observations and disaster management capabilities.
