Out of the 30 incumbent chief ministers, 29 are crorepatis with the only exception being West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, according to poll affidavits analysed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Out of the 30 CMs analysed by ADR, 97% are crorepatis with the average assets being Rs 33.96 crore for every CM. 13 CMs have declared serious criminal cases including those related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and criminal intimidation, as per the ADR report.
The top three chief ministers in terms of assets are Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik.
The three CMs with the lowest declared assets, according to the ADR report are West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is the wealthiest incumbent chief minister in India with a total of Rs 510 crore assets. His self-income is over Rs 50 crore, according to ADR.
The second-richest CM Pema Khandu's self-income and liability are zero, while his total asset is over Rs 163 crore. Khandu is followed by Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, who owns movable and immovable assets worth Rs 63.87 crore.
Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio with Rs 46 crore assets, and Puducherry CM N Rangasamy with Rs 38 crore assets are among the richest chief ministers in India.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangama own assets worth Rs 17 crore and Rs 14 crore respectively. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin feature among the list of CMs with assets worth Rs 3 crore to Rs 10 crore. Arvind Kejriwal has a self-income of over Rs 2 lakh and a total asset of over Rs 3 crore.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has the lowest amount of declared assets which are worth a little over Rs 15 lakh. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan is the second least wealthiest CM with assets of Rs 1 crore. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is third on the list of CMs with the lowest assets with declared assets of more than Rs 1 crore.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi President and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao claimed the top spot in the list of CMs with the highest declared liabilities. KCR’s net assets stand at Rs 23.5 crore while his liabilities are around Rs 8.8 crore.
After KCR, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai comes second with Rs 4.9 crore liabilities against Rs 8.92 crore worth of assets. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has Rs 3.75 crore liabilities against declared assets worth Rs 11.6 crore.
