The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), with assistance from the Indian Navy and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), has intercepted a boat off the coast of Gujarat, resulting in the seizure of 3,300 kg of drugs. This marks the largest narcotics haul in the Indian subcontinent.
The seized drugs, bearing the label "Produce of Pakistan," are estimated to hold a market value exceeding Rs 2,000 crore. Among the confiscated substances are 3,089 kg of cannabis, 158 kg of methamphetamine, and 25 kg of morphine.
Acting on intelligence gathered from a surveillance aircraft, an Indian Navy vessel deployed at sea for two days intercepted the suspicious boat upon its entry into Indian territorial waters. The coordinated efforts of the NCB, Indian Navy, and Gujarat ATS led to the successful operation.
Following the interception, authorities apprehended five suspected Pakistani crew members onboard the vessel. Simultaneously, the boat and its illicit cargo were seized by law enforcement agencies.
The confiscated boat, drugs, and detained crew members have been transported to Porbandar, Gujarat, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
An extensive investigation is underway to gather additional information about the arrested Pakistani crew members. Authorities are also striving to ascertain the origin and intended destination of the seized narcotics.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in executing the successful drug seizure operation. He emphasized that the achievement aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a drug-free India.
Amit Shah reiterated the government's steadfast commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free nation. He extended congratulations to the NCB, Indian Navy, and Gujarat Police for their concerted efforts in achieving this significant milestone.
The Indian Navy has a history of conducting successful anti-narcotics operations at sea, having previously intercepted and recovered drugs worth crores of rupees in various operations.
