The mystery surrounding Peru's alleged 'alien mummies' has intensified following a recent investigation by Joshua McDowell, a defence attorney and former Colorado prosecutor. He, along with three independent forensic medical examiners from the US, examined one of the specimens named "Maria."

During the examination, McDowell and the forensic experts observed that the fingerprints of the specimen displayed "straight" lines, lacking the typical loops or whorls seen in human fingerprints. McDowell, experienced in analysing fingerprints, confirmed that these prints did not match classic human patterns.

The investigation took place in Peru in April, following a presentation of the mummies by UFO enthusiast and Mexican journalist José Jaime Maussan at Mexico’s Congress.

McDowell suggested that the unusual straight lines in the fingerprints might be related to the preservation method used. The mummies are covered in diatomaceous earth, a powder made from fossilized algae. Despite this, the exposed fingers also showed predominantly straight lines in the epidermal ridges.

The exact nature of the specimens remains undetermined. McDowell described the findings as "very odd" but cautioned against drawing conclusions about their origin at this stage.

Maussan has consistently claimed that the mummies are extraterrestrial beings. However, this theory has not gained acceptance from government officials or scientists, who consider the mummies to be a hoax.

In January, Peruvian authorities labelled the mummies as "dolls" constructed from human and animal bones, metal, glue, and paper, dismissing any extraterrestrial claims. Forensic archaeologist Flavio Estrada reiterated this stance, stating that the mummies are not aliens.

The specimens, known as the Nazca mummies due to their discovery in Peru's Nazca region, are characterized by their three fingers and elongated heads, which have contributed to the debate.

Despite the controversy and conflicting opinions, McDowell continues to investigate the case, spending extensive time on the matter in an effort to resolve the mystery surrounding these unusual artifacts.
