Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist N Valarmathi breathed last on September 2. She was known for being the voice behind the countdown for the launch of Chandrayaan-3.
Ex-ISRO Director now retired Dr. P V Venkitakrishnan wrote on X (Twitter), “The voice of Valarmathi Madam will not be there for the countdowns of future missions of ISRO from Sriharikotta. Chandrayan 3 was her final countdown announcement—an unexpected demise . Feel so sad. Pranams!”
As per reports Valarmathi, a native of Tamil Nadu's Ariyalur passed away on Saturday evening due to a heart attack.

The successful Chandrayaan-3 launched on July 14 turned out to be her final countdown.
Condolences poured in for Valarmathi as one of the netizens wrote, "Valarmathi madam's voice will be missed during future ISRO mission countdowns from Sriharikotta..."
Valarmathi joined ISRO in 1984 and participated in several missions. She was the project director of India's first indigenously developed Radar Imaging Satellite (RIS), RISAT-1. Some of her other key missions were Insat 2A, IRS IC, IRS ID, TES.
Valarmathi was the first person to receive the Abdul Kalam Award, instituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu in honour of former president Abdul Kalam in 2015.
Meanwhile, Chandrayaan-3 has completed all its assignments and the Pragyan rover has been put to sleep. The next sunrise on the Moon is expected on September 22. ISRO said in a statement, "The solar panel is oriented to receive the light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, 2023. The receiver is kept on. Hoping for a successful awakening for another set of assignments. Else, it will forever stay there as India's lunar ambassador."
ISRO had launched its first-ever Sun Mission - Aditya L-1 - on September 2. ISRO said it successfully performed the first earth-bound manoeuvre of Aditya L1 from ISTRAC here. The satellite is healthy and operating nominally. The next manoeuvre is scheduled for September 5, 2023, around 03:00 hrs IST.
