Metro services in Navi Mumbai, are set to commence today, November 17. The state-run planning authority CIDCO has announced the opening of the 11 km-long elevated Metro Rail Line 1 that connects Belapur and Pendhar to the public.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), a state-run planning authority, announced the inauguration of the metro line and conveyed the Maharashtra government's commitment to expedite the project for Navi Mumbaikars.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his congratulations to the residents of Navi Mumbai, emphasising the government's directive to CIDCO for prompt operationalisation of the metro services.
The CM's statement revealed that metro services are initiated without the customary public program, aligning with the government's urgency to benefit Navi Mumbai citizens. CIDCO, responsible for the metro network's execution in Navi Mumbai, received accolades for its efficient implementation of the project.
The metro service will commence on November 17, running from Pendhar to Belapur Terminal and Belapur Terminal to Pendhar, starting at 3 pm, with the last service concluding at 10 pm.
Starting November 18, the metro services will run from 6 am to 10 pm, with a frequency of 15 minutes between Pendhar and Belapur Terminal.
The metro fare structure is based on distance, ranging from ₹10 for 0 to 2 KM to ₹40 for distances beyond 10 KM, offering a convenient and affordable mode of transportation.
Despite the completion and certification of the metro route for operations earlier, the state government reportedly awaited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration, suggesting a keenness for a high-profile launch of the significant infrastructure project.
The introduction of metro services aims to enhance connectivity within Navi Mumbai, contributing to the broader objective of establishing a robust metro network in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
