Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Karnataka on Monday and unveil several development projects, including the Shivamogga Airport in the state
According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will undertake a walkthrough and inspect Shivamogga Airport, after which, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple projects at Shivamogga
The Shivamogga Airport is developed at a cost of around Rs 450 crore. The Passenger Terminal Building of the airport can handle 300 passengers per hour
The airport is situated on 662.38 acres of land, and apart from the runway, terminal building, Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and fire station building, it has a taxiway, approach road, peripheral road, and compound wall
As per reports, the runway of the Shivamogga airport is 3,200 metre in length, the second-longest in Karnataka after Bengaluru airport
The foundation of the Shivamogga airport was laid in June 2020 by then Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa. The airport at Shivamogga is a dream come true for the people of Malnad region, he tweeted on Sunday
According to PM Modi, "The airport in Shivamogga will boost commerce, connectivity and enhance tourism"
Besides the airport, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for two railway projects in Shivamogga. This includes Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranebennur new Railway line and Koteganguru Railway coaching depot. He will lay the foundation stone for multiple road development projects as well
