Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a special meeting with all the Indian athletes who represented the nation at Asian Games 2023. Owing to their brilliant performance, India won a total of 107 medals including 28 Gold, 38 Silver and 41 Bronze medals and ended at the 4th spot in the Asian Games tally, preceded by China (383), Japan (188) and South Korea (190)
While addressing India’s Asian Games contingent, PM Modi said, "Indian athletes today don't just want good performance. They want medals. You are the G.O.A.T for the country.”
PM Modi further urged the athletes to help the government fight against the use of drugs. He said, “The country is fighting a nirnayak (decisive) battle against drugs... war against doping. I want you to go to schools and tell them (students) what is the right way to win medals, and they will listen to you. You can play a huge role in that.”
India made its mark in Archery as the team secured a total of 9 medals - five gold, two silver and two bronze
India made a sparkling cricket debut at this edition of the Asian Games as both Men’s and Women’s team secured Gold medals
The Hockey teams also helped India secure more medals as the Men’s team won the gold medal and Women’s team won the bronze medal
Neeraj Chopra, who won hearts with his Gold medal at Olympics, repeated his feat at the Asian Games as he won the Gold medal with a season-best throw of 88.88m. Kishore Jena won the Silver medal with his personal best of 87.54m
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Divyansh Panwar and Rudrankksh Patil won the gold medal at Asian Games 2023 and also broke the world record with a score of 1769 points to win gold in the 50-meter Rifle 3Ps men's team event
Manu Bhaker along with Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan won gold in the 25m pistol with a world record score of 1759 points while Sift Kaur Samra smashed the world record in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions with a huge score of 469.6 points
