This year’s Asian Games officially began on September 24 after the opening ceremony was hosted on Saturday at 5:30 pm IST in the Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou, China
The 655-member contingent of India was led by boxer Lovlina Borgohain and hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh. Other prominent players in the contingent are wrestler Bajrang Punia, PV Sindhu for badminton and India’s ‘Golden Boy’ Neeraj Chopra
At the end of the first day at Asian Games 2023, China held the top spot in medals tally with 45 medals, while Republic of Korea and Japan took the second and third spot with 18 medals each. Korea has five gold medal while Japan has just three
India is currently sixth in the medal tally with ten medals, which includes one gold medal, three silver medals and six bronze medals
The Indian contingent won its first gold medal in the Men’s 10m air rifle event. The medal was won by the team of Rudrankksh Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar and Aishwary Pratap Singh, who has also won a bronze medal in the individual 10m air rifle event
India has won three silver medals in the Women’s 10m air rifle, Men’s lightweight double sculls rowing and Men’s eight rowing events
Women’s cricket team of India is assured of a medal and has the chance to win the gold medal on Monday as they are facing Sri Lanka in the final
Apart from the Indian cricket team, India has two more confirmed medal chances as Vijayveer Sidhu has made it to the final of 25m rapid pistol. Sidhu has also won a bronze in the 25m rapid fire team event. On the other hand, Likith Selvaraj has qualified for the final of Men’s 100m breaststroke
