India has clinched two medals so far on the tenth day of the Asian Games 2023 with a few more expected. On the other hand, the Indian cricket team has started its Asian Games 2023 campaign with a win against Nepal.
The Indian cricket team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad has started its Asian Games campaign with a win as they defeated Nepal by 23 runs in the quarter final on Tuesday. India posted a score of 202 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs as Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century. Nepal was able to score just 179 runs in 20 overs for a loss of 9 wickets.
Indian boxer Preeti Pawar has won a bronze medal in 54kg category of boxing. Pawar lost to the reigning Asian Games Champion Chang Yuan of China in the semi-final round. She has also assured a place in next year’s Paris Olympics by reaching the semi-finals.
Indian duo Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam won a bronze medal in the Men’s Canoe Double 1000m sprint event. The duo finished third in the final round with a time of 3:53.329. This is India’s second canoe medal in the history of Asian Games. The first one was won over almost three decades ago by Johnny Rommel and Siji Kumar Sadanandan at the Asian Games 1994 in Hiroshima, Japan.
Indian athletes Muhammed Ajmal, Vithya Ramraj, Rajesh Ramesh and Subha Venkatesan won a silver medal in the 4x400 mixed relay event on Monday. The team finished third but their bronze was upgraded to sliver after the Sri Lankan team was disqualified for lane infringement.
India’s Ancy Sojan made history as she won a silver medal on her Asian Games debut in the Women’s Long Jump event. The 22-year-old Sojan gave back-to-back humongous leaps with a best distance of 6.63m to clinch the silver medal on Monday.
Indian quartet of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Nihal Joel William, Amoj Jacob and Mijo Chacko Kurian finished first in the men's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:03.81 to reach the final round. They were two seconds quicker than the second placed Qatar and will now race in the final on Wednesday.
Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has confirmed a silver medal in the 75 kgs category as she won her semi-final round fight to reach the final of the event. Borgohain defeated the Thai pugilist Baison Maneekon by 5-0 to confirm a medal and also book her spot in next year’s Paris Olympics.
Indian archers Abhishek Verma and Ojas Deotale have confirmed both the gold and silver medals for the country in the Compound archery event. The duo won each of their semi-final matches respectively and are now set to face each other in the final round on Saturday. Deotale reached the final in style as he scored a perfect 150 against former World Champion Yang Jaewon in the semi-final round.
Women archers Jyothi Surekha and Aditi Gopichand will both fight for the gold and bronze medals in the archery event. Surekha and Gopichand faced each other in the semi-final round which was won by the former by a score of 149-146.
Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar is currently in the second position in the Decathlon event after the completion of Pole Vault event. Shankar scored his personal best of 4.10m in the Pole vault event. He trails the Chinese athlete by 91 points after the eight events. Only two more events are remaining – javelin throw and 1500m.
With the two medals on Day 10, India is currently the fourth best nation at the Asian Games 2023 with 62 medals in total. India has won 13 gold, 24 silver and 25 bronze medals so far.
