The hockey event for this year’s Asian Games began earlier on Sunday and the Indian team began its campaign against Uzbekistan and won the match by a margin of 16 goals. Now in their second match, they have won against Singapore by repeating their spree of scoring 16 goals
World’s third best team, India won its second match of the round-robin stage against Singapore with the final score of 16-1. The Indian team captain Harmanpreet Singh scored four goals in the match
The Indian team first scored in the 12th minute of the first quarter. The first goal was scored by Mandeep Singh who also scored a hattrick against Uzbekistan. He later went on to complete his second hattrick against Singapore in the 50th minute
The Indian hockey captain scored his first goal in the 23rd minute with a flick shot. He got his second goal in the 39th minute during a penalty corner which was injected by Abhishek Nain. The captain completed his hattrick in the next minute when India once again got a penalty corner. Singh got his fourth goal in the 42nd minute with the help of his trademark drag flick at Asian Games 2023
Singapore got their maiden goal in the 53rd minute when Muhammed made a run against the play and the Indian defense was a little slow
India is set to face Japan next on September 28 followed by Pakistan and Bangladesh on September 30 and October 2 respectively
The Indian contingent has so far won thirteen medals including two gold, four silver and seven bronze medals
So far on Day 3, the mixed team of 10m air rifle missed out on the bronze medal. But the 4x100 medley relay team of Likith Selvaraj, Srihari Nataraj, Sajan Prakash and Tanish George Mathew has qualified for the final in swimming. Indian judoka Tulika Maan is set to fight for the bronze medal in the +78kg category. India has already won two medals on Day 3 as Neha Thakur and Eabad Ali won a sliver and bronze medal in Sailing events.
